Brian C. Hanley joined Porter Simon in 2005 as an associate in the firm's business-transactional department and was thereafter admitted as a partner in the firm in 2009. Brian practices primarily business, real estate, and entitlement law, though he also assists the firm's litigation department in civil litigation matters, drawing on his judicial clerkship and externship experiences. Brian also represents homeowners' associations with respect to the Davis-Stirling Common Interest Development Act, governing documents, assessment liens, dispute resolution and other association issues.
Prior to joining Porter Simon, Brian clerked for Judge Edward C. Reed, Jr., United States District Judge for the District of Nevada, in Reno, Nevada. During the summer following his first year in law school, Brian served as an extern for Judge Procter R. Hug, Jr., of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, whose chambers are also in Reno, Nevada.
Brian received his undergraduate degree in Business-Economics with a Specialization in Computing in 1996 from the University of California at Los Angeles. Brian graduated summa cum laude and became a member of Phi Beta Kappa upon graduation.
After earning his undergraduate degree, Brian came to Tahoe in 1996 for "just one winter" at Squaw Valley. One winter quickly turned into four, during which time he met his wife, Erin. Brian managed to leave Tahoe and return to school at Stanford Law School in 2000, and ultimately received his JD degree with distinction in 2003. He then quickly made his way back to Tahoe. Brian and his wife are the proud parents of their daughter, Brynn, who was born August 26, 2008 and has just recently taken up skiing (and loves it!).
Brian is currently admitted to practice in both California and Nevada. Brian enjoys the Truckee lifestyle, including snowboarding, wakeboarding, mountain-biking, and enjoying the clean air and limited traffic. He also enjoys taking his two Samoyed dogs for runs and hikes on the "06" and in Martis Valley.
