Jim Simon has practiced law in Truckee since 1976 when he and Jim Porter formed the current firm. Jim focuses on all aspects of civil litigation with an emphasis on business matters. He has tried cases for plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal courts in most areas of law, including real estate, insurance, business, personal injury and wrongful death claims. He regularly defends architectural, design and construction professionals, and has developed a niche in accounting fraud cases.
Before moving to the Lake Tahoe area, Jim received his early training at the San Francisco Bay Area firm of Crosby, Heafy, Roach & May, where he practiced in the business litigation department. Jim has been appointed Judge Pro Tem and Referee in the Superior Courts of Placer and Nevada counties, and serves as private mediator for litigants in a variety of matters. He has served on continuing education panels for members of the bar and is AV rated from the nationally recognized legal rating firm, Martindale-Hubbell. This rating, the highest, is reserved for attorneys whose legal skills are judged to be very high to pre-eminent, and whose ethical standards are “very high.” He has been named “Super Lawyer” by Northern California Super Lawyers for two consecutive years.
Jim is a member and past president of both the Truckee Rotary Club and the Tahoe-Truckee Bar Association, and participates in several other charitable and community associations. He routinely offers his emcee and auctioneering talents to a variety of non-profit community organizations. Outside the office, Jim enjoys sailing and windsurfing in various locations around the world. His other hobbies include mountain biking, snowboarding and skiing. Jim and his wife, Martha, have two college age children: daughter, Brooke, and son, Andrew.
Jim attended USC and later graduated with distinction from California State University at San Jose in 1971, with a B.A. in Philosophy. He received his J.D. degree in 1974 from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and is admitted to practice in California and various federal courts.
